I kick off my month-long celebration of Pioneer Day (July 24th) by sharing a boredom-buster fun activity for children. It's a
thaumotrope--thauma, a Greek word meaning wonder or miracle. Thaumotrope toys predated television and radio and though it was generally a simple toy, it could provide much entertainment. This toy reminds me of an art lesson that is commonly used with children where a drawing is given "life" through the appearance of motion. This would be a good beginner art lesson (not to mention science) as well as a fascinating
